Journey Through the Făgăraș Mountains

Documenting and capturing the transformation of the mountain landscape over a full year, from snow to spring flowers.

The Challenge

The task was to capture the essence of seasonal changes in a single iconic frame, highlighting both the raw beauty of winter and the delicacy of spring rebirth. Extreme light and unpredictable weather conditions were major obstacles.

The Solution and Process

I planned 4 expeditions to the same location, one in each season. I used a sturdy tripod and graduated neutral density filters to manage light contrast on snow. For the spring shots, I worked during the golden hours to capture the warmth and texture of the terrain.

  • Rigorous planning of the route and safety conditions.
  • Use of exposure bracketing technique (natural HDR).
  • Non-destructive editing to preserve the authenticity of natural colors.

Results and Recognition

The photographic series was featured in a local exhibition and received a special mention for "narrative coherence." It has become an essential case study in our course on long-term landscape photography.
